Two worlds collide. Vocals and percussion at the Auhausen Abbey Church. A truly special auditory delight.
Mike Turnbull, A percussionist who was born and raised in Liverpool has been living and working in Germany since the 1980s. He has played in a wide variety of musical genres, ranging from pop to jazz and funk to free improvisation. He is currently performing both in Germany and abroad, among other places. featuring Capella de la Torre (Renaissance music, award winners: Echo Klassik 2016 and 2017, Opus Klassik 2018 and 2023), the Vinorosso Ensemble (Balkan and Klezmer orchestra); in 2015, he co-founded the nu-jazz/experimental pop group TURNBULLs. From 2007 to 2019, Mike Turnbull was an adjunct instructor for hand percussion at the Detmold University of Music.
Wolfgang Saus, a successful chemist who, even as a child, was already an animal impersonator and a fan of classical music at the age of 3. He discovered his vocal talents on his own and quickly made a name for himself in the opera world. At first as a part-time performer, and shortly thereafter as a professional on international stages. Then, as a singer, researcher, and educator, he discovered overtone singing. For years, he has been traveling the world, teaching choirs and individuals the art of overtone singing.
The musicians met three years ago in Auhausen during a joint performance at a concert organized by Musica Ahuse e.V. know. Now they are performing together in a workshop concert at the Auhausen monastery church.
Mike Turnbull improvises on the berimbau and frame drum alongside Wolfgang Saus of Oberton. A fascinating auditory experience awaits the audience.
